Italian citizenship
How to get Italian citizenship from the US
Three main routes. Which one is yours depends on your family situation.
By descent (jure sanguinis)
If you have an Italian ancestor who did not renounce citizenship before the birth of the next descendant. Law 74/2025: limited to 2nd generation via consular route.
By marriage
After 2 years of marriage to an Italian citizen (or 1 year if there are children). Requires certified B1 Italian level.
By residence in Italy
After 10 years of legal residence in Italy (4 years for EU citizens). Not available from abroad — requires actual residence.
What we do
We prepare the documents, translate them, check the file is complete and monitor Prenot@Mi for the consulate appointment. We do not provide legal advice on eligibility.
For complex cases (3rd+ gen post Law 74/2025, maternal line pre-1948, citizenship renunciation), we recommend a specialised Italian attorney.
We are not attorneys and do not provide legal advice on eligibility. We are a document preparation service.
